Ted Torphy, PhD
Dr. Ted Torphy serves as Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board at Ultimate Medicine, bringing more than 35 years of experience in pharmaceutical R&D, external innovation, and early-stage drug development. A veteran biotech leader, he has held senior executive roles at Johnson & Johnson and BioMotiv, and pioneered translational models that bridge academia, biotech, and industry.
During his tenure at Johnson & Johnson, Dr. Torphy led discovery and development programs that produced several major therapeutics, including SIMPONI®, STELARA®, and SYLVANT®. As Vice Chairman of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, he co-architected the organization’s groundbreaking venture philanthropy model, enabling the first disease-modifying CF therapies KALYDECO® and ORKAMBI®.
Dr. Torphy holds a PhD in Pharmacology and Toxicology from West Virginia University, a BS in Pharmacy from the University of Wisconsin, and completed postdoctoral research at the University of California, San Diego. With over 120 scientific publications and a deep portfolio of patents, he provides strategic leadership guiding Ultimate Medicine’s translational and preclinical development programs.
